Rubber stamping

Solid Stamps is the leading UK manufacturer of rubber stamping products. Many people are not aware that rubber stamps are still very much used today and are a fairly large industry. More than 3.5 million rubber stamp products are sold every year in the UK which is a surprise to most people. In the old days rubber stamping was simply done using a rubber stamp with a separate ink pad and bang – the impression had been done. But - the separate ink pad often dried out, the text plate got dirty and full of dust, the office table got messy, people got ink on their fingers and more important the rubber stamp made the documents stamped look cheap and nasty.

After the war new rubber stamp technology came to the market and improved the quality of impressions and documents when they had been stamped. The first new technology was metal self-inking rubber stamps – and the metal used was steel. This technology was clean, prevented the ink pad from drying out and made great quality impressions when documents were stamped. But the steel made the stamps heavy and many women had problems using the metal self-inking stamps. When plastic self-inking rubber stamps came to the market they instantly became a huge success and this was soon the most used product for rubber stamping. Particularly the women in the offices loved them and rubber stamping was no longer a messy task for them to do. The industry kept going developing new rubber stamp technologies and many new and more sophisticated products came to the market. Self inking stamps with a spare ink pad; fast drying ink to be used on hard surfaces such as plastic and steel; and special ink used to stamp names in children’s clothes or hospital garments. The creativity was tremendous and new technology kept providing new ways of rubber stamping so keeping the industry alive.

The latest technology available is called flash. The impressions on documents that have been stamped using this technology has an outstanding quality and do not in any way reduce the look of the document. In the flash technology the text plate and ink pad are not separated – one can say the ink pad is the text plate. When printing using flash technology it is not possible to do repeated rubber stamping. The ink does not run through the thousands of tiny holes that make the impression quickly enough so time is needed to pause in between stamping.

The plastic self-inking rubber stamps and the metal self-inking rubber stamps can both be used for repeated rubber stamping but the quality of the impressions are not as good as the flash stamp impressions.

Whatever your need is….. Solid Stamps helps you find the best solution.
